Inspired by the true account of former hostage, Irish author Brian Keenan, SOMEONE
WHO’LL WATCH OVER ME tells the story of three hostages who
find themselves plunged into the terrifying underbelly of Lebanon during
war. The play probes into the complex human spirit that both helps and hinders
our survival in the most desperate of circumstances.
The Broadway Studio Theatre is an intimate fringe venue within
a large, impressive 1930’s building in the heart of South East London.
The production of cult classic Trainspotting by Harry Gibson
in 2005 followed by a rare production of Anthony Burgess’ original version
of the controversial A Clockwork Orange has established this
ambitious south London fringe venue as a hot spot for new talent.
SOMEONE WHO’LL WATCH OVER ME is a life-affirming story
of determination and imagination, of friendship and laughter and above all
of the human capacity for survival. It is a play that should not be missed,
and that once seen, will certainly not be forgotten.
“Frank McGuinness’s play made me choke and cry and laugh
and hold myself.” Brian Keenan.
SOMEONE WHO’LL WATCH OVER ME opened at The Broadway Studio Theatre, Catford, SE6 4RU on Tuesday 19th September
2006 and ran for three weeks.
REVIEWS
Plays International
All three actors have prodigious technical reserves. There is outstanding work from Curtis who reads frequently from the Koran with a lucid musical diction that acts on the listener like a valium rush.
